CHALK OVER HATE EVENT

June 3, 2022.

Chalk Over Hate was a public art event initiated by Artists 4 Israel. To begin generating interest and excitement about Photography and the Holocaust: Then & Now, Light Research with support from CEPA staff joined the global event and participated locally. It actively engaged numerous Buffalo area organizations and committed Photography and the Holocaust project partners including the JCC-Buffalo, Western New York Book Arts Collaborative, and Starlight Studio, as well as individual community members.

Buffaloians came together in the wake of the Buffalo grocery store shooting to express solidarity, demand action, and too promote social justice. This event is a prime example of the type of diverse activity and broad community participation CEPA will coordinate to engage its communities in the project. This project will be replicated during the exhibition.

CEPA’s objective is to bridge those growing divides that threaten our future with programming that inspires a cross-generation dialogue and creates a forum for artists and individuals of diverse lived experiences, cultural, ethnic, and social identities to come together and learn from one another with the intent of pushing back on hatred and racism.
